United Team

The start of this new year has been incredible for me. It seems things are just advancing at an accelerated pace for me and in the right direction I would add. What was the catalyst that has made all this happened? It’s through networking and connecting with other people both online and offline.

Last month Patricia Millman from Lavender Uses made her first guest post here on my blog on communication advice to technical people. Her guest post has helped me considerably to make me known to a number of people who would not have heard of me otherwise and I’ve seize the opportunity to make new connections and I’ve yet to connect with all the people who’ve made a visit to my blog because there are so many of you.

If you are hesitating or still thinking of accepting or doing a guest post, I’d say do it, it’s good for web traffic and getting your name or brand more exposure out there.

Now here is a blog post I recommend that you read to demonstrate how you can fail online if you are neglecting or avoiding to connect genuinely with others online and my take on it.

Read how in this Web 2.0 age (Web 2.0 means the Social media sites: Twitter, Facebook and blogs, etc) if you are not scrupulous about doing the right thing online and trying to make genuine connection online it can ruin your reputation forever. You can read the details of how my […]

Social Bookmarking heartI’ve written a post on getting started with social bookmarking and another one on the benefits of tagging your web contents and a post on how to attract free traffic to your website by being sociable online through blog commenting. In this post I am going to show you how to tie all these ideas together in order to get highly targeted traffic to your website. If you haven’t read those previous posts yet, please do so as this post will make more sense if you do.

Let me briefly recap with some definitions first. ‘Social bookmarking websites‘ are websites that enable you to publicly (and privately, if you choose) bookmark web pages that you like. A tag is a freeform cross between a ‘keyword‘ and a ‘category‘ with which you can label web content such as blog posts, photos, videos, and [pay attention to this] social bookmarks.

Examples of social bookmarking websites where you can tag your bookmarks are StumbleUpon, and Delicious and Diigo.

When you tag your bookmarks you are grouping them together with all other bookmarks that have the same tags. Where the benefits of tagging reveal itself is when many people converge on the same tags for similar topics: thereby making those tags popular.

Tagging is very powerful because it is a multiplayer game.

Here is why: while tags are great for finding web content, they can also be used for finding people […]

8 Tips to Get Your Blog Comments Approved

Comment ApprovedI’ve seen some comments left here recently that has left me debating with myself whether I should approve them or not, so I’ve update this post I’ve written in September.

In a previous post I explained how you can use blog commenting to attract traffic to your website and I warned that you have to avoid being mistaken for being a blog comment spammer. In this post I am going to elaborate what blog comment spamming is and what you must do in order not to be mistaken for one.

Spams are out of place or unwelcomed advertising. Spam blog comments are comments that are left with the sole intention to get the readers of the comment to visit a commercial website. Those comments may have been left by a person or an automated software (also referred to as a spam bot). You can recognise those comments because they are often totally irrelevant to the post, they are too general in nature, and they do not add any value to the post.

The reason why a comment doesn’t show up immediately when you leave a comment for the first time on a blog is to filter out those spam or low value comments. The owner of the blog must approve your comment first before it can show up on the blog.

Now, if you are new to blogging and or haven’t been commenting much, it’s possible to be mistakenly taken for a spammer and not have your comment approved […]

International Audience The Internet is global but are you making the wonderful content of your website available only to people who read your language?

If you look at the top right corner of this website you’ll notice a little tab with the Google logo and ‘Translate’ written on it. Go ahead and click on it and you’ll see a top bar appear, it’s called Google Translate Tool, you can use this bar to translate my blog to any of the languages available on the tool.

If you wish to have this translation tool on your website go to the Google Translate Tool web page and grab the JavaScript provided and place it on the pages of your website. Here is a little tip from me, do not get the default script found on Step 4, but click on the +plus sign on Step 3 and you will get more options. Select the Tabbed for Display mode, then copy the snippet JavaScript code.

If you are using WordPress, you can place this JavaScript in your footer.php file or in a text widget in your sidebar. I advice placing the JavaScript in the footer because this will optimise your web page for faster loading.

Since I’ve implemented Google Translate I’ve noticed from my Google Analytics an increase in the number of visitors to my website from non-English countries.

Now, how about the quality of the translation of Google Translate Tool?

Given that I speak English and French, I find the quality of […]
