Affiliate Business Tips

If you’re not preselling, you’re losing money

PresellingThe number one strategy to increase your affiliate sales is preselling.

Before we start, let’s talk about what preselling actually is. Preselling is both an art and a science. And it’s function is to prepare your reader to buy something. Then you send them to the site that sells what you’ve prepared them for. When done correctly, your reader will not even notice.

The gist is that you give your reader some useful information. And then refer them to the product website. We’ll get into how to do it correctly in a minute. But before we do, you need to know why it’s so important. Here are a few benefits of preselling:

  • It builds trust – Once you have your readers’ trust, they will click your links more readily. And the more clicks you get the more sales you’ll make.
  • It takes your reader out of defense mode – Nobody likes to be sold something. By not doing that to them, your reader is less defensive. Unguarded reading means they’re not filtering what you say. So your content get absorbed.
  • It creates buying readiness – Now they’re open to hearing what you’re telling them. Being open means, they are open to everything you give them. For example, the sales message on the page you’re linking to. Sending them to the sales page in this state makes them more receptive to the actual pitch.
  • It increases your sales – Now your reader arrives at

Traffic Generation Tips

Attract Traffic Everyone knows the number one thing you need to be successful online is traffic to your website. Of course you also need to have a valuable offer for your visitors – a reason for them to transact with you. Once the visitors arrive you can have them join your mailing list, purchase a product or subscribe to your RSS feed. So, the critical step is to generate a steady flow of visitors.

Here are some tips for generating website visitors:

Here are a few of the most popular way to get traffic to your site – for free:

  • Web 2.0
  • Article Websites
  • Video Marketing

And here’s how to use each method…

Web 2.0

The term “Web 2.0” is associated with websites that facilitate interactive information sharing and collaboration in a social media setting. What this means for you is that you can join into the community and add your own content. And because of the highly interactive and popular nature of these sites, Google and other search engines “index” their content regularly. The benefit of this to you is that your content is now considered as part of these sites. And any links in your content that point to your own sites count as a strong “vote” in favor of your sites – lending you credibility in the search engines. This is the hidden benefit of using Web 2.0 sites. How to generate web 2.0 traffic is something we’ve only scratched the surface on. I don’t want to be exhaustive […]

Membership Niche Selection Tips

FansThis article explains how to select a profitable niche for your membership business.

First – Look for Fanatics

If you want your membership business to be profitable, you have to find a marketing with fanatics in it. Fanatic is defined as someone with an irrational enthusiasm. These are the people you’re looking for because they are so enthusiastic they’re willing to spend money on their topic of fanaticism. Here’s how to find fanatics:

  • Here’s something you may not have considered – magazines! We’re so internet-based these days, it’s easy to forget about them. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to run a print magazine. So if you see one on the shelves you know they are making money, which means that there are enough people interested in what they’re saying to make it profitable. If they can make money in a print version, you can probably make money with a membership website.
  • Watch and listen for fanatics in your daily life. Pay attention to conversations, social events, TV, restaurants, public places to see what people are talking about. If people are talking about something, they probably want to know more about it. Which means you can start a membership business providing information on it.
  • Conventions, clubs, and organizations. Once again, if there are enough people interested in a topic to create a club or organization, then there are enough people to build a membership business around it. Likewise, if there are enough people to hold a convention, there are definitely enough people

Traffic is King, but this comes FIRST

Keyword ResearchLet’s talk about some powerful ways to get free and automated traffic coming to your website.

Traffic is useless . . . unless…

Keyword research is really the first step in getting traffic to your website. Why? Because you have to target these keywords if you are to have any hope of actually generating traffic for them. This means it’s critical to select your keywords properly.

A couple things to keep in mind when doing keyword research:

  • How competitive are the keywords you’re going after? You’ll have to analyze the competition and see what’s out there for this.
  • Will the keywords you’re targeting bring buyers? Certain keywords are good for generating a lot of visitors who don’t buy anything. You want to generate visitors ready to buy.
  • Another thing to think about is affiliates. If you want to build a huge business, you’re going to need affiliates to help you. So, it’s important to also target affiliates in the keywords you go after.

This is critical to your business, but it takes a lot of time and effort. And hiring an expert is very expensive. And that’s why most people skip this step! The smartest marketers use website traffic software to automate this and other aspects of their business. This way you get this critical step done fast and done well.

OK, now we can talk about traffic…

Only after doing your keyword research correctly can you start targeting these keywords to get you traffic.

Here’s a short list of […]

Affiliate Marketing Secrets

Winning Affiliate Marketing Strategies

RedirectionAffiliate marketing is by far the fastest way to get started earning a living online. What “affiliate marketing” means is that you just send traffic to someone else’s website, they do everything else! (make the product, design the sale page, handle the billing and support, etc.), and you get a percentage of the sale price as your commission, which for digital products can be 50% of more.

The benefits of this are

  1. You can get started right away because you don’t have to make a product, craft a sales letter, design the website, create marketing materials, or get a merchant account and CRM.
  2. You have practically zero time investment because they handle the billing, support, maintenance, etc.
  3. Your efforts are risk-free, because the product owner has already done all the research , development and testing. So you already know that the visitors you send will result in commissions for you.

There’s no denying that these benefits make affiliate marketing the best thing going!

OK, but it’s not all rosy…

After all your hard work of generating traffic to the sales page, you will never see any of those visitors again. Most of them will not buy on their first visit, which means you’re losing over 90% of the traffic right off the top. That’s fine for the product owner because she can sell to them again and again, but you can’t.

What’s the solution?

It’s simple: You must get your visitors’ email addresses before you send […]

What a 400 km Car Trip Down South Taught Me

Last weekend (25-27 Sep 2010) was a long weekend in Western Australia and some friends of ours suggested we go camping for the weekend. I thought it would be a great idea to take a break and do something different. It was a wonderful trip and over the next few blog posts I want to share with you the experience. I got quite a number of personal development lessons and I made a number of interesting marketing observations as well when I was out there. Here is how it started, when my friend suggested we go to the Porongurups, I thought it was about a hundred kilometres from Perth, but when I checked Google maps to my surprise it would be a 380 kilometres trip and the Porongurups looked very close to Albany. Now, in my mind Albany is just too far away for a car trip by me and I’ve only ever driven within the Perth metropolitan area before.
